Club History

Our organization traces its lineage back to Vietnam War Veterans attending ASU in the late 1960s who wanted to get together to swap stories and regain the sense of camaraderie developed with battle buddies in the service. The organization was renewed in 2009 when student veterans returning from OIF/OEF discovered the need for support from individuals and institutions that recognized the challenges associated with the transition from the battle field to the class room.
Since then, we have evolved from a social club to an elaborate network of club members, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters. ASU President Michael Crow has made a commitment to the Student Veterans at ASU which is exemplified by the opening of the Pat Tillman Veterans Center in the fall of 2011, the schools top 20 ranking by the Military Times, and the schools continued commitment to making ASU 'THE' home of the new student veteran model for the New American University!

Mission of the ASU Student Veterans Association

It is our mission to ensure the success of ASU military members, veterans, dependents, and supporters in higher education and beyond. We believe we can assist Dr. Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University in his mission of having ASU be the model for the New American University.
We present the New Student Veteran Model as a way identifying our role in this project.
Student Veterans must encourage collaboration among diverse units and stakeholders as well as eliminate the walls and barriers to education, prosperity, and wellness.
We must eliminate the hedgerows that divide us and help redefine the relationship of our institutions: public and private, nonprofit and for profit, local, state and federal.
By doing so, we will alter the trajectory of Student Veterans and redefine the roles that we play in education, in the economy, and in our communities…at all levels.
